Overview: Episode 11

Where you can find specific answers to your questions in this week's show. There were many deep dives into topics this week. (timings of the broadcast):

00:00 Welcome to our guests
02:10 A look at each of the panel members' set up

12:30 Q: What's your view on using tablets for reading sheet music when playing/ practising? I’ve seen people use this, but not sure what tablets (screen size-wise) would be best and which apps are recommended for sheet music. Apparently, there is a foot pedal attachment for switching pages if you didn't want to do it with a swipe on the tablet  - could you shed any light on such tech gadgets?

Included a discussion about an online whiteboard that works and there is a fully working free version: https://awwapp.com/

21:45 Melody shares how to develop aural skills using Noterush app.

24:45 Q: I have a 7-year-old beginner who is quite dyslexic and is finding it hard to play via note names. She only likes playing tunes that I make up for her via finger numbers. Have you any advice?

33:00 Game ideas and an example of very creating teaching of mezzo-staccato and developing good techniques.

40:15 A for YOU: When it comes to piano teaching, what’s your greatest challenge? Let us know at the show page.

41:00 A Keyboard Chart has been added to the Teacher Resource Kit. Grab it here.

42:30 Last week Linda Poelzer from Alberta, Canada and Carol Horman (I think she’s from Australia) said they found “teaching complex and complicated rhythms” most challenging. What would you suggest?

49:40 Brad Eustace shares some of his arrangements with Paul, House of the Rising Sun, Greensleeves and In the Hall of the Mountain King • Get Brad's music in Australia • UK

56:30 Gillian shares about Q+A going 2 weekly from now. We're back on Wed/Thurs 24/25 June (depending on your timezone)

58:00 Video of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" arrangement by Brad Eustace - definitely worth a look!
